Chris Messina's character on "The Mindy Project," Danny Castellano, may resent romantic comedies, but he has a past with Mindy Lahiri's (Mindy Kaling) favorite romantic comedy of all time, "You've Got Mail."

Messina appeared in a small role in Nora Ephron's famous romantic comedy as a bookseller at Fox Books.

But Kaling and Messina have never discussed his few minutes of fame in the film.

"We've never talked about that, Mindy and I!" Messina told Vulture. "I don't know if she knows that. She loves Nora, and rightly so. I think I had like four lines in 'You’ve Got Mail,' and Nora Ephron was one of the only people who ever cast me on the spot, in the room, which doesn't really happen that much."

Although Kaling hasn't hounded Messina about his "You've Got Mail" role, she certainly made a case for his role on her TV show.

"When she first asked, I told her no a bunch of times," Messina said earlier this year. "But she kept coming back to me. At first, this guy was named Clayton Brooks, and he was much more uptight, and when I said no, she gave him a different name — Danny Castellano — and a different upbringing and a different personality, and it became impossible to say no ... In 'The Mindy Project' they are all so funny, so it's scary for me."

"The Mindy Project" airs on Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m. ET on Fox.
