Based on his appearance on Wednesday night's "Late Show with David Letterman," Chris Pratt may cite two quite different experiences as some of his most significant. The "Parks and Recreation" funnyman spilled some of his life story to Letterman, discussing the birth of his son and having once lived in a van.
Pratt said he was essentially "homeless for a year" upon moving to Hawaii years ago and "[retiring] from door-to-door sales." He lived in a van with his "good buddy Zeb," with whom he worked as a waiter at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.
It wasn't all bad, though, as working at the popular seafood restaurant led to Pratt's big break. One night while working, he waited on actress Rae Dawn Chong, who at the time was directing the highbrow fare "Cursed Part 3" and recruited him for a lead role in the 2000 film.
"The door wasn't opened for me, but it was unlocked at least," Pratt told Letterman, who applauded sardonically in honor of the actor's "Cursed" breakthrough.
Pratt grew more emotional as the interview continued, appearing to come close to tears while discussing his and Anna Faris' 4-month-old son Jack, who was born nine weeks premature but is now healthy.
"What do you think of the guy so far?" Letterman asked, to which Pratt replied, "Oh God, he is just amazing." The actor called his son a "ball of joy."
Pratt has been rapidly making the talk-show rounds lately to promote the awards-friendly Osama bin Laden takedown flick "Zero Dark Thirty." He made news just a few weeks ago when, during an appearance on "Conan," he revealed the six-pack he attained for the role.
