WASHINGTON -- Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) will play the role of Paul Ryan in debate rehearsals for Vice President Joe Biden, an Obama campaign official confirmed to The Huffington Post.

Van Hollen is a natural fit for debate preparations with Ryan. The two regularly spar over deficit and spending matters in their roles as ranking member and chairman, respectively, on the House Budget Committee.

CBS on Thursday reported that Van Hollen has accepted the role, but that debate preparation has not started yet.

The only scheduled vice presidential debate is set for Oct. 11.
