Chris Wallace To Paul Ryan: 'Why Are You And Romney Losing?'

Fox News Host Challenges Ryan

Chris Wallace got tough with Paul Ryan on 'Fox News Sunday' this week.

Discussing the economy, Wallace asked Ryan, "Why aren't you guys running away with this race? Let me pull up some of the statistics. Unemployment is 8.1 percent. No president has won reelection with unemployment that high since FDR ... given all of that, why are you and Romney losing at this point?”

Wallace also noted that no president has won reelection with GDP growth as low as the current 1.3 percent since the U.S. started measuring GDP growth.

“We’re gonna win this race,” Ryan said, to which Wallace responded, “But you’re not at this point. You’re losing.”

Recent polls have shown Obama leading Romney in major swing states. Polls also show that Obama's approval rating has seen a bump following the Democratic National Convention.

Wallace wondered, “The fact that the message has not gotten through as effectively as it could, so far, is that your fault, the Romney campaign’s fault or is it the voters’ fault?”

"It's not the voter's fault," said Ryan. "I think the president has done an effective job at trying to confuse the issue, at trying to distort our postions, at trying to distract people, but at the end of the day I don't think that's going to work."
