“He obviously doesn’t care much for the agency or any of the regulations it has promulgated,” Christine Todd Whitman said of Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt. “He doesn’t believe in climate change; he wants to roll back the Clean Power Plan.”
The president-elect’s pick has deep ties to the fossil fuels industry, fighting EPA restrictions while raking in hundreds of thousands in political donations from the energy sector. Pruitt has also sued the EPA over proposed restrictions on power plants and called climate change an issue that is “far from settled.”
Whitman told the environmental news site Grist that Pruitt is “disdainful of the agency and the science behind what the agency does.”
The former New Jersey Governor and longtime Republican backed Hillary Clinton for president. Whitman has said she left the EPA because of what she describes as the White House’s refusal to confront the dangers of climate change.
