Politician's Musical Christmas Tie Interrupts His Serious Speech

A colleague joked the tie "might interfere with Santa's flight path."

Politicians often get interrupted, but rarely by their own apparel.

But that’s what happened to Irish politician Aengus Ó Snodaigh on Friday while he was giving a speech to fellow lawmakers.

Ó Snodaigh was discussing the serious topic of asbestos exposure, but he kept being interrupted by the musical Christmas tie he was wearing, according to Dublin Live.

As the lawmaker spoke, his tie kept beeping out cheerily inappropriate renditions of “We Wish You A Merry Christmas” and “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” in tones usually associated with 1980s video games.

The tie stopped bleating before the end the speech, but that didn’t stop fellow lawmaker Jan O’Sullivan from encouraging her colleague to wear less noisy ties.

Ó Snodaigh should “turn off those ties,” Sullivan joked, because they “might interfere with Santa’s flight path.”

Seems like Ó Snodaigh did the next best thing and gave the musical monstrosity away to fellow lawmaker Jim Daly.
