Former Democratic Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher is particularly well-suited to talk about defense secretary nominee Chuck Hagel, the former Republican senator from Nebraska. She has known Hagel since they were both elected in 1996, and as members of Congress with an interest in foreign affairs, often traveled together.
Hagel has been an outspoken proponent of dramatic reductions in nuclear weapons worldwide, and was the first high profile politician to sign on with Global Zero, which advocates for a complete end to nuclear arms. Tauscher, meanwhile, dealt with nuclear policy at the State Department as under secretary of state for Arms Control and International Security Affairs, a position she held until early last year.
Watch an interview with Tauscher on Hagel's approach to nuclear policy, and what he could accomplish atop the Pentagon above.
