Cicadas' New York City Visit Won't Happen In 2013 After All

False Alarm!

New Yorkers have been anxious about the cicadas arrival for weeks. That loud buzz and all those omnipresent discarded shells. They're scary! Biblical!

You can now breathe a sigh of relief. The cicadas aren't coming to New York. At least according to several entomologists consulted by New York magazine's Daily Intel. It turns out the dense urban design of the city has blocked the cicadas almost completely. At this point, the experts say, about 90 percent of the cicadas that will emerge have emerged -- and few have been spotted in the Big Apple.

The one place in the five boroughs where cicadas are expected to be a serious pest is Staten Island. Somebody also apparently saw a cicada on the Upper West Side, but perhaps he felt lonely and bugged off.
