Clean Your Grill Now So Your Friends Don't Complain About Your Cooking

We've put together a little checklist that will make this task seem as bearable as possible in this heat.

Now that we're really in the thick of summer, you've probably already hosted more outdoor cookouts than you can count. So, it's probably a good time to really clean your grill so your friends and family don't start complaining about the flavor of your food. The Tipsy Hostess would not be happy with grates covered in grime! And to help you get started, we've put together a little checklist that will make this task as bearable as possible in this heat.

Before we get started, make sure you've disconnected the propane tank and the appliance is completely cool.

Good? OK, the first step will be tackling those grates. Love To Know recommends filling a large bucket with hot water, 1/4 cup of dish soap and 1/4 cup of baking soda. Then, place your grates inside and let them soak for an hour. After, use a brush to scrub any remaining residue and rinse it off with a hose.

Next, let's move on to the hood and walls. Real Simple suggests covering the heating elements with foil to protect them. Then, using a grill brush, give the inside a good scrub. Next, wipe them down with a damp paper towel.

Don't worry, you're almost done. Now it's time to deal with that nasty drip pan. (Again, it's vital to make sure it's completely cool before handling.) Simply remove the pan and use warm water and soap to clean it. It's important to wipe away any residue and rinse thoroughly to avoid staining.

You can remove the foil from the heating elements and replace all of the parts. You can also reconnect the propane tank. If you have a cabinet, now is the time to use a broom to remove any debris.

And finally, let's not forget the exterior. Simply give it a good cleaning with either stainless-steal wipes (if necessary) or a damp cloth.

Not too bad, huh?
