Need A Free Penis Tape Measure? Clinic Says Girth Matters

A Swedish health clinic is adding some girth to holiday mirth.

It's handing out penis tape measures so young men are properly fitted for condoms.

The devices, which promote better sizing and less slippage to prevent STDs, were distributed free beginning Tuesday on World AIDS Day, AFP reported.

To arrive at the right thickness measurement, which is key for condom wear, users have a bit of work to do in private.

"You have to measure the circumference of the penis when erect, not the length," clinic nurse Eddie Sandstrom said, according to AFP. "On our measuring tape you get the measurement in millimeters and a few recommendations for condom types that are suitable."

Sandstrom later told the Local that previous awareness campaigns were not persuading Swedes to use more condoms but this one, at the Stockholm Schools Youth Clinic, was more "more open and a bit more fun."

A 2013 study on infections led some news outlets to dub Sweden "Europe's STI capital."
