Oh, what a night? According to THR, Clint Eastwood may step up to direct the long gestating screen adaptation of "Jersey Boys." The musical -- based on the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons -- was originally set up at Warner Bros. with Jon Favreau attached to direct; the studio put the film on ice in November of 2012, but Eastwood could step in and save the fledgling project. (THR notes that Warner Bros. would still make the film with Eastwood involved.)
Eastwood, who last directed "J. Edgar" in 2011, has long had a musical film on his mind -- just not "Jersey Boys." On Jan. 20, 2011, Deadline.com reported that Eastwood was eying a remake of "A Star Is Born" with Beyonce Knowles set to play the leading role. (Knowles would star as a young singer who becomes a star with the help of an aging musician; it's a role previously played by actresses like Barbra Streisand, Janet Gaynor and Judy Garland.) That project never materialized for a number of reasons -- Beyonce's pregnancy, the inability to cast a leading man opposite the actress-singer -- but Eastwood was still keen on making it work, even after Beyonce dropped "A Star Is Born" completely in October of last year.
Per THR, Eastwood would still make "A Star Is Born," just after his work on "Jersey Boys." Eastwood turns 83 this May.
