'Cloud Atlas': Tom Hanks To Star In New Book-To-Film

Tom Hanks Books New Starring Role

Tom Hanks has signed on to play a lead in the upcoming film, "Cloud Atlas," Deadline reports. The film, which will be written and co-directed by Andy and Lana Wachowski (of "The Matrix") and Tom Tykwer (of "Run Lola Run") is based on a book by David Mitchell.

Deadline also has the log line, which read, "An epic story of humankind in which the actions and consequences of our lives impact one another throughout the past, present and future as one soul is shaped from a murderer into a savior and a single act of kindness ripples out for centuries to inspire a revolution."

It's yet another new role for Hanks, who has been very busy lately. He stars in the upcoming "Larry Crowne," a romantic comedy with Julia Roberts, is currently filming "Incredibly Loud and Extremely Close" and recently signed on to play Captain Richard Phillips in "A Captain's Duty," the real life story of a captain's heroics in the face of a Somali pirate invasion.

He'll also make a guest appearance in an upcoming episode of "30 Rock." He also just appeared on "Saturday Night Live."
