'Obama Revealed': Jessica Yellin Talks New CNN Convention Documentary (VIDEO)

WATCH: CNN Gets Inside Access With Obama

CNN will debut its documentary on President Obama on Monday and kick off the network's official coverage of the 2012 Democratic National Convention.

CNN, along with cable news rival MSNBC, produced documentaries that precede the candidates' respective conventions. While Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney sat down with both networks, Obama only granted an interview to CNN. "Obama Revealed: The Man, The President," will be hosted by chief White House correspondent Jessica Yellin, who has covered the president since the 2008 Iowa Caucuses.

In an interview with The Huffington Post, Yellin said her challenge in reporting the documentary was twofold. The chief White House correspondent said that she sought to give viewers a sense of Obama's leadership as president and "who he is as a man." The documentary explores how Obama tackled what many would describe as the biggest moments of his presidency, and how his handling of those situations reflected his governing style and personal character.

"[We wanted to] pull back and get out of the everyday news cycle and the campaign back-and-forth," Yellin said. "It was our sense working on the documentary that [President Obama is] one of the politicians that you felt that you almost knew him better as a candidate than you did once he came into office."

Yellin said she was interested in hearing his perspective on the idea of this perception. "A lot of people felt that they understood him and had a sense of who he was, and then once he got into office, he almost seemed more distant. That's what a lot of voters would say," she said.

The ninety-minute documentary also includes interviews with Sec. of State Hillary Clinton, former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, and longtime personal aide Reggie Love.

When asked what other moments viewers can expect to look forward to in addition to the conversation with Obama, Yellin had one name.

"Reggie Love," Yellin said. "Whether you are a Democrat or a Republican, Reggie Love is a just a likeable guy. He was there by the president's side through a lot, and gives a lot of insight in a really clear way you can relate to about what the private side of President Obama is [like]."

Viewers can expect to watch Yellin report live primarily from the convention floor as the network covers the DNC in Charlotte, North Carolina. "Obama Revealed: The Man, The President" premieres on Monday, Sept. 3 on CNN at 8:00 p.m.
