The New Queen Of Spain Was Once A CNN Reporter

Former CNN Reporter To Become Queen Of Spain

The soon-to-be queen of Spain wasn't always royalty.

Princess Letizia, who will become queen on Thursday when her husband, Crown Prince Filipe, takes the throne, was once a reporter for CNN+ in Spain.

More than a decade ago, she was an award-winning journalist and anchor of the most-watched news program on Spanish TV. Her coverage included a live broadcast from Ground Zero on September 11 as well as war coverage from Iraq.

Letizia married Prince Filipe in 2003, a marriage that raised some eyebrows due to her commoner background. On Thursday, she will become queen following King Juan Carlos' abdication after 40 years on the throne.
