COLD, COLD CHRISTMAS:
A Soldier's Story

So close in here I can barely breathe

The dirt and the sand are making me wheeze

It's ninety-seven and its not even half past eight

Just when I think it couldn't get any hotter

I start to melt when I take out your letter

And read the words you wrote over again today

Still its gonna be a cold, cold Christmas

With my love in Texas

And my home so far away

Its gonna be a cold, cold Christmas

With my love in Texas

And my heart in the USA

Metal and mesh all over the base

Can't cover my heart when it's in two places

But God knows they're trying their best to keep us safe

A pill for the water, a mask for the gasses

Here we go again with the night vision glasses

But all I see is the sweat running down my face

Still its gonna be a cold, cold Christmas

With my love in Texas

And my home so far away

Its gonna be a cold, cold Christmas

With my love in Texas

And my heart in the USA

Some say what we're doing is right

Some say let 'em fight their own fight

I just pray I make it through the night

To a cold, cold Christmas

With my kids in Texas

And my home eight thousand miles away

Its gonna be a cold, cold Christmas

With my love in Texas

And my heart in the USA
