Colin Cowie's Memorial Day Party Ideas Set Out To Make Any BBQ 'Super Chic'

Colin Cowie reveals why you should rethink those paper towels-turned-napkins.

It's not every day we get to interview an A-list party planner like Colin Cowie. But this week, we were lucky enough to sit down with him and find out some great entertaining ideas for throwing an awesome Memorial Day party.

Cowie, who is partnering with Chase Freedom, says it's all about making an ordinary barbecue totally chic, and the first place to start is your table. Cowie suggests color coordinating your runners, napkins and serving dishes for a fresh take. "I think the most important thing is to create a whole new summer look just as you would your clothes." (We guess those patterned paper towels aren't going to cut it as napkins.)

Creating a "living" centerpiece, as Cowie puts it, is another way to wow guests. Simply take your favorite fruits and veggies like plums and tomatoes and put them in a crate or wooden bowl. You can also go for a dramatic look by floating five to six candles and rose petals in a large bowl with water. "It's inexpensive, mesmerizing and beautiful," he told us.

So what other words of wisdom did this guru have for us? Prepare everything the day before, make sure there's music playing at all times and... have fun! "A relaxed host gives everything else a relaxed feeling," he said.
