Former Secretary of State Colin Powell had harsh words for Dick Cheney over a book the former vice president wrote with his daughter Liz in 2015, leaked private emails show.
Powell sent an email to Kenneth Duberstein, former White House chief of staff to Ronald Reagan, last year that criticized the book, saying the Cheneys were “idiots and spent force peddling a book that ain’t going nowhere.”
The memoir Powell was referring to was Exceptional: Why the World Needs a Powerful America, a book about American foreign policy that is critical of President Barack Obama.
The email was first obtained by BuzzFeed News and came from the hacker group DCLeaks, which also disclosed other Powell emails critical of GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump. Another email also expressed concerns over Hillary Clinton’s health last year.
Both The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg have reported the hackers may have ties to Russian intelligence services. DCLeaks, created in April, has published emails connected to the Democratic Party in the past.
