It is no secret that there are groups of women around the State of Colorado who are looking for other women to run for office. We are proud to have such a high percentage of women in the Colorado General Assembly. However, right now there are no statewide officeholders, and U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette is the only female member of Congress.

We don't want women for the sake of the percentages though. Inside and outside the political parties, women are the movers and shakers from the local to the national level. They provide the special connection to the voters that have moved the State of Colorado forward in its politics. They knock on doors, make phone calls, organize meet-ups and do the intense outreach needed to elect the right people to the right office.

In recent meetings, women have begun to field names and explore ways to create a statewide network for the purpose of electing qualified candidates. One name popping to the top of the list is Betsy Markey. A former U.S. congresswoman, Markey has an extensive background as a small business owner and is extremely qualified to run for Colorado state treasurer. If she decides to enter the race, expect the network to expand quickly and extend to other targeted races from Congress to local city councils.
