Colorado's Endangered Species (PHOTOS)

State and federal agencies are beginning to re-evaluate a number of species in Colorado (and across the nation) to determine if they are threatened or endangered.

The Denver Post reported Wednesday that the Obama administration has in some cases been court ordered to reconsider these species which were denied by the Bush administration.

New species under consideration for protection have "aesthetic, ecological, education, historical, recreational and scientific value," and those facing extinction "could be indicators of bigger ecosystem problems that could hurt us," said Bridget Fahey, regional director of endangered species for the Interior Department's Fish and Wildlife Service.

At the federal level, Endangered Species Act litigation has forced a re-evaluation of dozens of species rejected under Bush. Among those that live in Colorado are the mountain plover, wolverine, greater sage grouse, white-tailed prairie dog and Gunnison sage grouse
