TIME Person of the Year 2017

For over thirty years, the YWCA Greater Los Angeles (GLA) has honored survivors who have broken their silence and supported victims who have yet to find their voice. Now, we honor and congratulate the #MeToo Silence breakers; as they have led what we hope is an irreversible culture change.

Across the nation, crisis advocates are answering hotline calls to those no longer willing to be silent to the trauma of harassment, rape and assault. The YWCA GLA pledges to remain on the front lines with our arms extended to the many more who have yet to come forward and to those who have stepped out bravely. We remain steadfast in offering our free confidential services to recovery and continued empowerment. The Silence Breakers have provoked change in the workplace and in every space sexual violence exists, by creating damage and fear.

Silence Breakers, you carry the strength of those before you and to those who come after, a much-needed road lined with believers and supporters. On behalf of the thousands of survivors we have heard from on the crisis hotline, met at the hospital, escorted to court, provided therapy, since the #MeToo campaign, we say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Are you a Silence Breaker?
