Since 1987, Mercy Learning Center of Bridgeport, Inc. (MLC) has educated and supported over 9,000 women. They provide basic literacy and life skills education to low-income, undereducated women using a holistic approach within a compassionate and supportive environment. By helping students to realize what they are truly capable of achieving, MLC empowers them to transform their lives and the lives of their families.

All of Mercy Learning Center's students struggle with a host of poverty-related issues. However, they have made the courageous decision to empower themselves by obtaining an education and a better quality of life. Learning to read, write and express themselves opens up a world of opportunities for the women at MLC. It enables them to enjoy stories with their children, understand their lease agreements, increase their employment opportunities, and achieve greater overall independence and self-sufficiency.

Mercy Learning Center is driven by the dedication and talent of its volunteers and supporters. Over 450 volunteers come to MLC to teach, encourage and connect. The diverse community of supporters is loyal, generous and engaged and makes their work possible. Most volunteers express how in giving to MLC, their own lives, in turn, are forever changed and enriched.
