It's difficult to know where to begin here, or even to be sure that there is any such thing as a beginning in this case; more to the point, this whole affair, this day itself, may very well constitute some teleological attractor towards which all events have been flowing, having themselves been put into motion by some prankster deity in order that the universe might justify its existence and even reveal its ultimate purpose by placing Christine O'Donnell into a contentious primary fight and thereby prompting the typhoon struggle which I shall describe for you just as soon as I am done writing this sentence, which, I can assure you, is almost over.

Christine O'Donnell is a nubile young woman who would very much like to run for the available Senate seat in Delaware but who must first beat fellow Republican Mike Castle, who himself is the preferred candidate of those Republicans who would prefer their candidate to have refrained from engaging in such behavior as suing their conservative think-tank employer for $6 million in emotional damages on account of alleged gender discrimination, as O'Donnell once did, or publicly lying about the easily-verifiable results of elections that the candidate has lost in the past, as O'Donnell once also did, or doing all sorts of other don'ts that O'Donnell has demonstrably done. Plus she's crazy, but that's not even really the point. The point is that, unlike such prior primary contests as that which pitted John McCain against Mitt Romney and Ron Paul against everyone, this occasion is pretty straightforward insomuch as that O'Donnell is crazy.

Still, that's not the point. The real point is that the lowest and most ridiculous of the various conservative bloggers have turned their incompetent guns on their betters-by-default, who are themselves thereby treated to a glimpse of what a movement conservative blogger looks like when he's mad at you.

Allow me to provide an example. Blogging fellow Dan Riehl, unhappy with more prominent blogging fellow John Hinderaker of Powerline for having decided to go with Castle over O'Donnell, pointed out recently that Castle actually voted to impeach George W. Bush, which would seem to make the fellow a liberal. Senor Hinderaker responded by pointing out that what he actually voted for was a move by which Kunich's impeachment bid would be sent to committee where it would languish and die, and that such undeniably conservative representatives as Peter King voted for the exact same thing. Riehl reacted with the following update to his original post:

It's claimed that some Republicans may have voted for it to force the issue. That would be another matter. I imagine a reference will emerge if that's the case.

Riehl does not go so far as to link back to the response he had demanded from Hinderaker and which Hinderaker had duly taken the time to provide, which is probably for the best insomuch as that the response includes several of those "references" that Riehl was so kind as to allow might emerge in the future.

I believe there is a lesson in all of this, and perhaps dozens of them.
