Conspiracy Theorists Think Peruvian Singer Is Actually Kurt Cobain

This is a new one ...

Kurt Cobain died more than 20 years ago, but that fact hasn’t stopped conspiracy theorists from claiming the Nirvana singer is alive and well. Oh, and also Peruvian.

After a video of Peruvian singer Ramiro Saavedra performing the grunge band’s hit “Come As You Are” began re-circulating online ― the footage was uploaded to YouTube in 2012 ― people on the internet couldn’t help but point out the resemblance between the two men. It should be noted, though, that Saavedra’s performance took place on an impersonation competition show called “Yo Soy” (”I Am”). He was literally trying to impersonate Cobain.

While we admit Saavedra sounds exactly like singer ― close your eyes while watching the video below and prepare to be freaked out ― the blond wig and oversized cardigan can’t quite hide the fact that he doesn’t look a thing like the alt rocker. He also plays the guitar right-handed, but Cobain was a lefty.

Upon seeing news of the conspiracy theory, which was initially covered by The Daily Mail, Nirvana responded with a heavy dose of sarcasm on Facebook.

“It is true, Kurt is alive,” the band wrote. “He needed time to learn to play the guitar with his right hand.”

Speculation surrounding the circumstances of Cobain’s death has been widespread since his body was found at his Seattle home in 1994.

The cause of death was ruled a suicide, yet, for various reasons, fans continue to believe the singer was murdered. Some think his suicide note was faked, while others believe his former wife, Courtney Love, hired someone to kill him.

The internet will never let celebrities rest in peace.
