Copenhagen Flash Mob: Philharmonic Plays On Subway (VIDEO)

Commuting is no fun.

But a lucky group of straphangers on the Copenhagen metro were treated in April to a flash mob performance of Grieg's "Peer Gynt," presumably making their commute quite a bit more enjoyable.

The project was a collaboration between the Copenhagen Philharmonic and Radio Klassisk, a classical music radio station. According to a HuffPost translation of the philharmonic's site, the flash mob coincided with the release of the philharmonic's lineup for the 2012/2013 season.

As can be seen in the video above, the performance leaves many weary commuters smiling.

In the fall of 2010, the Opera Company of Philadelphia organized a flash mob of 650 choristers who sang the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's "Messiah" at a local Macy's.

And when it comes to flash mobs taking over subway cars, there is a rich (and international) tradition, one that sometimes can involve riders ditching their pants.
