ABC reports Corey Dunton, the 16-year-old Bryant Park shooting suspect, was arraigned on criminal charges Tuesday morning.
Since Sunday, Dunton has been held on an attempted murder charge following the Saturday night shooting of 20-year-old Javier Contreras and 14-year-old Adonis Mera who were skating at the Bryant Park ice-skating rink where Dunton allegedly opened fire.
According to police, Dunton pulled out the gun and fired eight shots in Contreras' direction after attempting to steal Contreras' Marmot "Biggie" coat. Dunton shot Contreras in the hand and the hip and accidentally hit Mera, who was standing nearby, in the back. Mera's family says that the 14-year-old may be paralyzed.
On Monday, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly confirmed to reporters that the disagreement was indeed about the coat. "He says something to the effect of ‘I want your jacket.’The victim says no, but obviously more heated words may have been used," Kelly said. .
Dunton's Facebook page included several posts related to the shooting, including one post made on Friday before the shooting took place, "Bryant Park Looking To Litt Saterday Gotta Bring Da. amp For This Blasting music just like orchard in da summer facts."
Dunton then made three additional Facebook posts over a one-hour period Sunday morning while police officers were arriving at Bronx apartment where Dunton was hiding.
