Comedian Jimmy Dore and TV personality Leeann Tweeden discussed the gay "controversy" surrounding Newark Mayor Cory Booker in an appearance on "The Rubin Report" this week.
Speaking about the headlines with host Dave Rubin, Tweeden asked, "Really, does it matter if he's gay or not?" She then added, "You don't have to be married to be mayor or a senator ... but who cares either way?"
She then added, "If he's a good mayor, if he's a good senator, then who cares?"
"As far as my voting goes, it's pretty irrelevant," Dore pointed out. "If he was gay, it would be, for me, a positive [thing] because it would mean that he has a more open mind about the way the world works."
Responding to social media inquiries over his sexuality, Booker told the Washington Post, "I love seeing on Twitter when someone says I’m gay, and I say, ‘So what does it matter if I am? So be it. I hope you are not voting for me because you are making the presumption that I’m straight.’”
His response has sparked a flurry of criticism from a number of right-wing pundits. Among them was the American Family Association's Bryan Fischer, who called Booker's remarks "a tacit, if not almost explicit, admission" that he is, in fact, gay.
"I think [liberals are] grooming him to be the first homosexual president of the United States," Fischer added.
