How Country Music Reconciles Its Love For Jesus With Its Love For Beer

Picture country music on a spectrum of song themes. On one end, there's the conservative values stereotypically associated with the simple life: Do your work, go to church, love your husband or wife. On the other end, there's Toby Keith singing an homage to red Solo Cups, undying patriotism and, of course, trucks. Both ends have had astronomical success, and sometimes those opposing forces come together in a single song, like Thomas Rhett's 2012 track "Beer With Jesus." Rolling Stone Country explored the role of God in the changing genre with an in-depth piece last month, and the conversation continued on HuffPost Live on Tuesday, when host Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani talked with a panel of county music experts about how fans and artists alike reconcile their faith with their party-friendly tunes.
