The 2016 Academy of Country Music Awards found the perfect way to honor the late Joey Feek, of the vocal duo Joey + Rory, on Sunday night.

Before presenting the award for Vocal Group of the Year, Martina McBride and Darius Rucker had the audience honor Feek with a round of applause, which led to an emotional standing ovation. Feek and her husband, Rory, were nominated for Vocal Duo of the Year at the award show.

Feek, 40, died last month after a long battle with cancer. She leaves behind Rory and their young daughter, Indiana, as well as his daughters from a previous marriage, Heidi and Hopie.

"My wife's greatest dream came true today," Rory wrote on his blog the day Joey died. "She is in Heaven. The cancer is gone. The pain has ceased. And all her tears are dry."
