Couple Indicted In Murder Of Missing Student Anarae Schunk

The gruesome stabbing murder of University of Minnesota student Anarae Schunk in 2013 led a grand jury to indict a woman and her boyfriend, who's already accused of another murder.

Ashley Marie Conrade, 24, and Shavelle Oscar Chavez-Nelson, 32, were charged with first- and second-degree murder late Tuesday. It took police nine months to gather and process evidence that led to their arrest, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Schunk's body was found on Sept. 30, eight days after Chavez-Nelson allegedly stabbed her 22 times with a kitchen knife at his Rosemont, Minnesota townhouse. Conrade is accused of helping him get rid of the 20-year-old's body, which was dumped by a rural road.

Chavez-Nelson reportedly dated Schunk in 2012, and Conrade was his girlfriend when Schunk was killed.

The three were seen at a bar in Burnsville, Minnesota on the night of Schunk's death, and the Star Tribune reports that Schunk was trying to reclaim $5,000 she lent Chavez-Nelson while they were dating.

Chavez-Nelson was also previously charged with first- and second-degree murder in the shooting death of 23-year-old Palagor Jobi, who was shot in a dispute the same night Schunk was killed. He's in state prison for an unrelated burglary conviction.

HuffPost Crime Reporter David Lohr reported previously about Schunk:

Anarae Schunk, a popular junior studying sociology at the University of Minnesota, had many friends and was active online. "Leave something for someone to learn and do better," she wrote on her Facebook profile.

She was last seen alive on Sept. 22. That night, her former boyfriend, Chavez-Nelson, allegedly shot and killed Jobi outside a bar. Chavez-Nelson was allegedly jealous because Jobi was talking to Chavez-Nelson's new girlfriend, Ashley Conrade.
