Let's face it, we are not a nation of savers. According to the most recent data from the Commerce Department, Americans saved 4.5 percent of their income in the last three months of 2011.

Without much in the bank--and not to mention those stagnant wages--bargain hunting is imperative for many of us.

Enter the couponing craze. Coupons.com, which offers an online database of deals, calculated the thriftiest cities by totaling the amount of money that was saved in each city using coupons, measured against their respective populations.

Here are the 10 thriftiest cities in the country, according to the study.
