Emails and campaign contributions detail influence of dairy industry
Proclaiming that "No one is above the law," New Mexico's Supreme Court reinstated regulations to protect the state's drinking water from pollution by industrial dairy CAFOs -- regulations New Mexico's new governor, Susana Martinez, barred from taking effect as one of her very first acts in office last month. Meanwhile, newly disclosed emails outlining the cozy relationship between dairy lobbyists and the Martinez transition team indicate just why the governor made this one of her top priorities.
Congratulations to the New Mexico Environmental Law Center, whose attorneys challenged the governor's actions, and kudos to the New Mexico Supreme Court, which ruled unanimously in reinstating the groundwater protections, which were two years in the making.
