A Chicago couple, who chose Seattle as the destination for their August 9 wedding, thought they'd locked in the perfect rental property to house their wedding party -- but instead, they were victimized by a Craiglist scam.
Alan Stout and Angela Miceli rented a home in the University District of Seattle, doling out $3,000 for two weeks' use of the property. But when they arrived at the house earlier this month to settle in, there were already renters there.
Brendan Kenny, whose uncle owns the house and regularly rents it out, said scammers have taken his uncle's legitimate ad for the rental home and posted it on Craigslist, scamming four other would-be renters in the last four months.
“I felt terrible,” he told local news station King5.com. “We found it on Craigslist before, and all we can do it flag it as spam. Other than that, it's a public classified ad. There's not much else we can do about it.”
Miceli said she and her fiancé were devastated. “I just started crying,” the bride-to-be told Q13Fox.com. “What do you do? We had all of our bags."
