Cuba Is Booming On Airbnb, As If We Needed Another Reason To Go

If you're wondering where you should stay if you visit Cuba, consider an Airbnb.

The country is Airbnb's fastest-growing market, CEO Brian Chesky told Bloomberg TV. The site started listing properties in Cuba a little more than one month ago, and since then the number of Cuba listings has doubled from about 1,000 properties to about 2,000.

Listings run as low as $10 per night and include casas particulares, traditional Cuban home-stay properties already run by entrepreneurial locals.

"Cuba's existing network of 'casas particulares' means that many of our hosts are already experienced at welcoming visitors," Kay Kuehne, Airbnb's director for Latin America, told The Huffington Post. "We're excited by how quickly our host community in Cuba has grown."

Airbnb also told HuffPost that in some of company's biggest markets like San Francisco and Berlin, it took three years for the community to grow to 1,000 listings. In Cuba it only took 2 months.

The Airbnb boom is yet another reason to take advantage of recently relaxed travel restrictions for Americans visiting Cuba. A number of charter flights already service the island destination, and direct commercial flights are expected to start in the near future. You'll still need a legally-approved reason to go, but getting to Cuba hasn't been this easy for American travelers in decades -- and now, there's someplace to stay. Adios!
