A man who says he is from Cuba has been camping out for weeks outside Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles -- all for a shot at a big-league dream.
Loah Linares told KABC-TV in LA that he wants the Dodgers to give him a tryout, and he's willing to call the sidewalk home until they do so.
"If I didn't know how great a baseball player I know I am, I wouldn't be here trying to show off my skills to somebody," he told the station.
Linares says he hopes to follow Cuban players such as Yasiel Puig, who defected from Cuba in 2012 to become a rookie sensation with the Dodgers in 2013 (but is now battling injury and inconsistency).
Linares has logged more than two weeks outside the stadium without word from the team. The Huffington Post reached out to the Dodgers for comment but hasn't heard back.
As shown above in the video posted to YouTube by Conejo Productions, he's been doing pushups and practicing his swing to stay ready.
Food donations from friends have helped Linares stay there this long, he said in the video. He said he's played baseball since he was 8 and that the Dodgers should know he's hungry to achieve his goal of making it to the major leagues.
But For The Win did some research on Linares and found nothing to verify his background as a ballplayer.
Meanwhile, he waits and hopes.
"The LA Dodgers should know that I have what it takes," he said.
