Authorities say a man in India, who accepted a dinner invitation from the father of a young girl he allegedly raped, unwittingly agreed to a date with death.
According to Indianexpress.com, a 36-year-old man in Northeast Delhi's Khajuri Khas has been arrested and charged with the murder of a 45-year-old medicine supplier.
The father, whose name has not been released, allegedly walked into the Khajuri Khas Police Station on Friday and confessed to the crime.
He reportedly told police that the medicine supplier raped his 14-year-old daughter in August, while he was at work and the girl was home alone. He allegedly said he did not report the crime for fear of disgracing his daughter.
"The father called the medicine supplier over to his house saying he wanted to discuss some issue," a police spokesman told Indianexpress.com. "He served him dinner [and] after the meal the father overpowered the man and tied him to a chair."
The murder suspect then allegedly grabbed a pair of heated tongs, which authorities say he used to burn the medicine supplier's genitals.
"I burned his genitals once, he screamed," the father allegedly told police, according to Sundayworld.com. "I did it again, he shuddered. When I did it the third time, he did not move."
Authorities say the father, who claimed he did not "want to kill" the man, strangled him after he burned him.
"Based on his statement, we sent a team to the spot and recovered the body," authorities told Metro.co.uk. "It has been sent for a post-mortem examination and his family has been informed."
According to Indianexpress.com, authorities said the father told them that in the weeks leading up to the alleged killing he became incensed whenever he saw the medicine supplier in public with his own family. He also allegedly told police he had spent the past two months planning the murder.
