Dad's Letters Become A Beautiful Yet Heartbreaking Holiday Gift

Some of the best gifts this holiday season won't be wrapped with a bow.

Erich, who goes by pentathlone on Reddit lost his dad to cancer on Thanksgiving Day of this year, but while looking through his father's things, he found a letter his dad had written to him. It was from Erich's first day of school in 1979.

After more rummaging, he found another letter from his dad written on Erich's 13th birthday.

Erich explained in a comment that he and his dad used to fight back then, but these letters have finally given him a sense of peace. It's a feeling that Erich had promised his dad he would find. In Erich's words:

Dad was always making fun of his cancer. He was upset when he got turned down for a free trip to Disney for kids with cancer, not serious of course. When he got really bad we decided to let him know it would be ok, that we would be ok. I held his hand and said "Dad just to let you know, I'll be ok." He looked up patted me on the back of the head and said "I know and so will I." That was the last thing he said to me.
