Daily Meditation: Spiritual Sustenance

We all need help maintaining our personal spiritual practice. We hope that these Daily Meditations, prayers and mindful awareness exercises can be part of bringing spirituality alive in your life.

Today's meditation features the dua, or invocation, Muslims speak at the beginning and end of each day's fast for Ramadan. The month of fasting is a time when Muslims focus on their spirituality to bring them closer to God. May we all find sustenance in our spiritual lives.

Dua at the beginning of the fast:

I intend to keep the fast for tomorrow in the month of Ramadan.

Transliteration: Wa bisawmi ghadinn nawaiytu min shahri ramadan.

Dua at the end of the fast:

O Allah! I fasted for You and I believe in You and I put my trust in You and I break my fast with Your sustenance.

Transliteration: Allahumma inni laka sumtu wa bika aamantu wa alayka tawakkaltu wa ala rizq-ika-aftartu.
