Today's post features a poem written by late author Harper Lee when she was just 11 years old. The touching poem was reportedly published at the time in the the local newspaper of Lee's hometown of Monroeville, Alabama. Rest in peace, Harper Lee.

Now is the time to be gay.

Oh, how glad I will be

For it soon to be May!

Spring is here, spring is here!

How happy we are!

The birds are singing happily

Their sweet notes ring afar.
