Daily Meditation: Where Birds Sing

Daily Meditation: Where Birds Sing

We all need help maintaining our personal spiritual practice. We hope that these Daily Meditations, prayers and mindful awareness exercises can be part of bringing spirituality alive in your life.

Today’s meditation features a Tewa prayer included in The Little Book of Prayers. “Song of the Sky Loom” speaks of the creative powers of the universe and the intricate relationship that exists between humans and the rest of the natural world.

”Song of the Sky Loom” Tewa Prayer

O our Mother the Earth, O our Father the Sky,

Your children are we, and with tired backs

We bring you the gifts you love.

Then weave for us a garment of brightness;

May the warp be the white light of morning,

May the weft be the red light of evening,

May the fringes be the falling rain,

May the border be the standing rainbow.

Thus weave for us a garment of brightness,

That we may walk fittingly where birds sing,

That we may walk fittingly where the grass is green,

O our Mother the Earth, O our Father the Sky.
