Jon Stewart Mocks Republican Senators' Open Letter To Iran

Dear Iran, How Are You? We Are Fine. Love, Republicans.

On Tuesday's episode of "The Daily Show," Jon Stewart questioned Republican senators' decision to pen an open letter to the leaders of Iran, potentially undermining President Obama's efforts in negotiating a nuclear treaty.

The letter, proposed by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), urged Iran not to negotiate with the president, saying that he alone lacks the power to enact a treaty, and that doing so would essentially flout the U.S. Constitution.

Republican senators insisted that any agreement reached with the president would simply be undone by members of Congress. "President Obama will leave office in January 2017, while most of us will remain in office well beyond then -- perhaps decades," the letter stated.

DECADES. Yeah, Iran, this is a democracy, not a dictatorship! And, in a democracy, senators stay in power FOREVER.

Stewart explained that Nancy Pelosi and Democrats similarly bypassed President Bush in his dealings Syria. The 2007 media reacted not unlike the media in 2015, except with the party roles reversed.

So what does it all mean? In short: Politicians be crazy.

"The Daily Show" airs weekdays at 11:00 p.m. ET on Comedy Central.
