Politico's Dan Berman Joins National Journal

Politico's White House Editor Jumps To National Journal

NEW YORK -- Politico White House editor Dan Berman is joining National Journal as an assistant managing editor, according to a staff memo.

National Journal editor-in-chief Tim Grieve, who was previously Politico's managing editor, recalled in the memo how he worked with Berman on the launch of Politico Pro, the company's premium policy news service. Before becoming White House editor, Berman served as energy editor and as deputy managing editor of Politico Pro.

At National Journal, Berman will oversee coverage of Congress, the White House and policy.

See Grieve's memo below:

I am writing to share some very cool staff news.

First, Dan Berman has just accepted our offer to cross the river and join the National Journal team as an assistant managing editor.

This is a great hire for us. I know Dan's skills first hand: He worked hand-in-hand with me in creating Politico Pro, first as Energy Editor and then as Deputy Managing Editor. In those roles, he was an energetic advocate for and creator of high-quality, high-impact journalism. And Dan has continued to be that kind of editor even as he's grown through different positions in his post-Politico Pro life -- first as Politico's Money and Politics Editor and now as its White House Editor.

Dan will draw on all of that experience in his new role overseeing our coverage of Congress, the White House and policy.

Dan will work very closely with Ben Pershing, who is taking on a big new role as Editor of National Journal Daily. As many of you have heard, Sophie Yarborough is leaving us this month to take a new position at The Washington Post. We have asked Ben to take on the role of Editor of NJ Daily to lead the effort to reimagine the publication for a new era. Ben is a natural for this. He has worked wonders with our Congress team since arriving at National Journal earlier this year, and he’s a veteran journalist with a deep understanding of Congress and the kind of reporting that will have an impact inside the Capitol and around the country.

Please join Kristin and me in congratulating Ben and welcoming Dan. And please stand by for some more news on the hiring front very soon.

Thanks.
