Will @MayorEmanuel return?
The creator of the now-infamous fake Twitter account appeared on "The Colbert Report" Tuesday, and hinted that it was possible.
Columbia College assistant journalism professor Dan Sinker admitted last week that he was behind the incredibly popular, profanity-filled account, which amused more than 39,000 people during the mayoral campaign.
Sinker said that he started the account because he thought it would be funny, but it eventually turned into an epic story of a mayoral candidate who knew he would win, joined by pal David Axelrod, Carl the Intern, Hambone the dog and Quaxelrod the duck.
After meeting Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel in person last week, Sinker headed to New York for a taping of the "Colbert Report" Tuesday.
Stephen Colbert teased Sinker, asking if he teaches journalism students how to lie, and whether people thought the account was really Emanuel's.
"If anyone did, I would kind of question their sanity," Sinker said.
"Didn't Michelle Malkin think you were real for awhile?" Colbert replied.
"Well, perhaps. But, we could question her sanity couldn't we?" Sinker said.
He also asked about the Twitter account's future. MayorEmanuel tweets stopped the day after election night, when the faux mayor-elect entered a time vortex.
"Will we ever see Mayor Emanuel again?" Colbert asked.
"Time vortexes are funny things, right?" Sinker replied.
