David Freese is having one hell of a postseason. With the Cardinals trailing by two runs and already having used up two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Freese came to bat with two men on. The St. Louis third baseman quickly fell behind 1-2 to Rangers closer Neftali Feliz. Down to his last strike, the homegrown Cardinal lined one to deep right. The ball quickly got over the head of Rangers right fielder Nelson Cruz and both runners scored. Freese's game-tying triple brought the Redbirds back from the brink of elimination.
Then, in the bottom of the 11th inning, Mr. Freese delivered in another now-or-never moment. Facing Rangers pitcher Mark Lowe, Freese took a 3-2 pitch and drove it to deep center field. Josh Hamilton ran back but slowed down after a few strides as he watched the ball sail high over his head, landing on the grass beyond the fence while several fans ran to go grab it. The walk-off blast was his fifth home run of the postseason.
Against the Brewers in the National League Championship Series, Freese went 12 for 22 with three home runs en route to being named NLCS MVP. If he keeps it up in Game 7, he might take home the World Series MVP, too.
