David Keene CPAC Speech: President Of National Rifle Association Addresses Conference

National Rifle Association President David Keene spoke Saturday at the 2013 Conservative Political Action Conference, opening his remarks by observing the differences between "our movement" and the GOP.

"Our movement and the Republican party are not the same," Keene said, but noted that without the GOP "we don't have a viable vehicle" for pushing conservative issues.

"The Republican party has been left for dead many times and always seems to come back," Keene said.

Keene criticized Democrats, but said Democrats in control wouldn't faze the GOP.

"Our critics are in power today," Keene said. "Try as they might, they're going to fail."

While touting the strength of the Republican party, Keene did note that conservatives don't always agree, a point that was also touched on by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at CPAC.

"Our conservatives have our differences, we always have," Keene said. "We don't and we never have marched in lock-step, and we never will. It would be boring if we did."
