David Muir Named ABC World News Weekend Anchor

David Muir has been named the sole anchor of the weekend edition of ABC's "World News." The weekend broadcasts will now be called "World News with David Muir." Muir had been anchoring "World News Saturday," but he will now take the helm of the channel's Sunday broadcasts as well. He has also been serving as a lead substitute for Diane Sawyer; for instance, it was Muir who led ABC's special report about the fall of the Hosni Mubarak regime on Friday.

In a memo to staff, ABC News president Ben Sherwood called Muir "a gifted reporter and storyteller with immense creativity, versatility and dedication to our audience."

Muir has been with ABC News since 2003, and has served in a wide variety of positions since then, including anchoring and many years of foreign reporting. He also reported extensively from Cairo during the Egyptian revolution.
