Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz might always be beloved throughout New England. But Big Papi certainly seems to have a penchant for getting on the nerves of those beyond the borders of Red Sox nation.

So far during the 2014 MLB season, Ortiz has defended his actions in feuds with a few Tampa Bay Rays pitchers and even MLB Network hosts.

Here are five things that seem to have the haters so angry with Ortiz:

The Bat Flip

Opposing players, notably Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Chris Archer, don't like it much when Ortiz "pimps" a home run.
The Slow Trip 'Round The Bases
Ortiz can be historically slow when rounding the bases after his home runs.
He's The Champ

The Red Sox won it all in 2013. Few things can rally the haters, like a smiling winner.
There's That Whole PED Thing

Others focus on the home runs rather than the trot or the bat flip, to contend that Ortiz got a "free pass" after reportedly testing positive for PEDs in 2003 when MLB conducted anonymous tests.
A-Rod Isn't Here To Get Kicked Around

With A-Rod suspended for the full 2014 season, maybe some people, especially in the AL East, just need another ballplayer to pick on.
