'Deadliest Catch' Finale: A Crewman's Death Ends The Season On A Tragic Note (VIDEO)

'Deadliest Catch' Season Ends With Severe Injury And Death

Another hard-fought season on "Deadliest Catch" (Mon., 8 p.m. ET on Discovery). In the season finale, tragedy struck as crew heard of the death of a crewman on board a factory trawler. The Coast Guard rushed to the ship he was on, but the crewman didn't make it.

Luckily for the crews featured on "Catch," none of their men were impacted, but there's a brotherhood on the water and this loss was felt nonetheless. The crewman was on a ship with two of his brothers, who were struggling to deal with his death.

On board the Kodiak, Mike Van Der Velt faced a painful challenge when the tip of his finger got caught. The graphic footage showed what was left. Luckily for Van Der Velt, the rest of his finger was found in his glove, and he and his appendage were sent to Anchorage for medical treatment.

It was a difficult finale as the challenging "Deadliest Catch" wrapped its season.
