'Deadliest Catch: The Bait': Elliott Neese On Getting Fired

Discovery is offering a new "pre-show" for the ninth season of their signature hit. "Deadliest Catch: The Bait" will feature candid chats with the captains of the various ships spotlighted. And right away in the premiere, it proved that it will be must-watch television for fans of the reality series.

For the premiere episode, Elliott Neese revealed that he was fired from the Ramblin' Rose. He explained that he was let go because the owner watches the show. It was a scene where a crew member under Elliott's watch fell asleep at the wheel and almost crashed the boat into the ice.

The problem, though, was that Elliott claims the scene never happened. Is he saying the producers faked it to create drama? "That never actually really happened," Elliott said. "I was a little pissed off about that.”

Executive producer Jeff Conroy defended the show, saying, "We have a difference of opinion. Because, you know, I got the tape. He’s got the tape ... I’m pretty confident I could show you time-coded tape when that stuff happened.” The show did have that time-coded tape.

Regardless, Elliott said that getting fired was the best thing that ever happened to him because it enabled him to buy his own boat. He debuted his new boat, Saga, on the season premiere.

Exeutive producer David Pritikin told Us Weekly that this season was about redemption for Elliott, saying, "People either love him or love to hate him. He comes back as the youngest boat owner or captain in the fleet.”
