Among those trapped along the Pennsylvania Turnpike were the Duquesne University men's basketball team, who were stuck for at least 12 hours on a bus traveling to Pittsburgh from Fairfax, Virginia.
The National Guard has been called out to help drivers who had been stranded through the night, the Associated Press reports.
Some stranded drivers took to Twitter to post pictures of the stationary vehicles.
Drivers were also stuck on I-75 in Kentucky for more than 10 hours and were delivered food by The Red Cross, The Weather Channel reported. The backup was about 35 miles long and The Red Cross delivered food to those who were stranded, according to CNN.
