"Dear Abby" is back again with the perfect advice for the mother of a queer teen.
"Modern Mom in Maryland" recently wrote to the advice columnist about her concerns surrounding her son's exploration of his sexuality. While she wasn't necessarily worried that her son is expressing an interest in boys, she seemed a bit perplexed by her child "testing the waters" with different kinds of sexual partners.
She wrote "Dear Abby": "My 17-year-old son told me he has finally had his first kiss, and it was with another boy. I’m not sure what to think."
MMIM goes on to explain that her son has dated girls in the past and currently has a girlfriend and has also had a close gay friend. The mother writes that she's "confused" and "I have no problem if my son is gay, and I will love him no matter what, but I honestly think he is just confused" before asking if there's something she should be doing to "help him through this."
Abby's advice was pitch perfect:
"Dear Abby" is no stranger to giving incredible advice when it comes to queer issues. Earlier this year, the columnist responded to a gay grandmother who was struggling with issues surrounding her homophobic son.
Additionally, "Dear Abby" shut down a homophobic couple last year who were excluding their new gay neighbors from social events. Abby told the couple that perhaps they chose the wrong place to live and noted "if you interact only with people like yourselves, you will have missed a chance for growth, which is what you have been offered here. Please don't blow it."
